Ski Season Has Started
Ski Season Has Started
December 11, 2009
Greetings from our Mountaintop!
Winter is finally here! Un-seasonally warm temperatures have kept the Great Lakes warm and unfrozen so air masses passing over them are absorbing a lot of moisture that arrives here in the form of beautiful snow after being lifted by our Green Mountains. When winds laden with natural snow blow heavily, we spray our dense man-made snow up to help pull the mixture down into our fields, making a fantastic skiing base. It's really exciting to have been waiting so patiently and suddenly see the weather opening up in front of us. Everyone here is buzzing with ski equipment preparations and anticipation of our trails opening officially today. After sharing the trails yesterday with the deer and wild turkeys, I'm looking forward to seeing more people out there.
Speaking of anticipation, we’ve heard from many of you who are wondering about the Christmas Eve song list that we’ll be singing with you here. Of course, Silent Night in both English and German is always on the list (don’t worry, words are provided!) along with many classics like Joy to the World, Hark the Herald Angels Sing and many more. Charlie Yerrick, our Passionate Director of Sports and Fitness will be one of several musically inclined members of the staff joining in our family’s singing.
There are still a few rooms available for our Holidays with the von Trapps, so if anyone is interested in skiing and/or singing with the von Trapps, please do give us a call or visit the website. My family I are excited to get out and share our passion for cross country skiing in this beautiful destination. I'm hoping to lead a back-country tour, my father Johannes will focus on the history and ecology of our woods, and my sister Kristina will share her tips on getting out there with young children. My mom will help out wherever she is needed, she is great that way!
So give us a call or check out our winter events on the website, I'm off to help with the snowmaking.
Cheers,
Sam von Trapp
