Trapp Family Lodge Gardens

by Hal, Gardener

Hot, humid weather has dominated the North Country the past few weeks. The Trapp Family Gardens are growing quite well, weeds included. It is a challenge to keep up with the weeds. There are lots of insect pests this growing season; such as the cucumber, potato and Japanese beetles. I have been using the organic bacterial powers and sprays, such as Dipel, sprays to interrupt development during the beetles’ larval stage. Although, I find that two bricks pressed together work the best for the adult stage. A mix of Neem Oil and soap sprayed on the plant works relatively well for soft body insect such as aphids.

We are picking the first few veggies and herbs at the present time. Examples being summer squash, early cabbage, parsley and greens. We have also picked many pints of raspberries which are used mainly in our bakery.

July is the most colorful time of year in the gardens with all of the annuals and perennials in bloom.

Stop by the gardens during your next visit to the Trapp Family Lodge! It is a great place for a leisurely stroll or to sit on a bench or chair and read a book. It is a very special place.

Hope to see you soon.
