Does 'The Sound of Music' sound familiar? It does
for LaVonne Moore, founder of WBCO-AM 1540, who has a special connection to
the von Trapp family. Moore's great-nephew, Sam Edward von Trapp,
37-year-old grandson of Maria von Trapp, is getting married in Vermont next
weekend. Maria was portrayed as a singing governess by actress Julie Andrews
in the 1965 musical film.

The Moores have seen one of America's most beloved musicals and plays a few
times. The movie is based on Maria's memoir, 'The Story of the Trapp Family
Singers.' 'The husband-to-be is the son of my niece, Lynne and her husband
Johannes von Trapp (Maria's 10th and youngest child),' Moore said. LaVonne
and her husband Tom will reunite with lots of relatives at the sprawling
Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe for the four-day wedding.

The Moores have visited the Lodge several times for family reunions. The
2,400-acre resort is a retreat in the mountains suitable for cross country
skiing
, group gatherings, weddings and houses the von Trapp legacy.

Similar to the von Trapps, LaVonne has a musical family. Growing up in
Marshall and Madison, Minn., several cousins sang for church and various
family events. In the 1960s, Lynne Alice Peterson spent time in Bucyrus as a
babysitter for the Moores' children when WBCO began.

The von Trapp family connection began with a visit by Moore's brother to the
Trapp Family Lodge soon after it opened as a public resort. Singing waiters
and waitresses were needed, so several cousins from Minnesota worked there
for numerous summers.

From there, Lynne and Johannes fell in love, married and had two children:
Kristina, 39, and Sam, 37. 'We don't see a lot of Johannes,' said Moore, who
keeps in touch with Lynne by e-mail. 'Johannes wanted to go into forestry
out west. They're both ranch people.' Sam and fiancee Elisa Sepulveda met as
ski instructors in Sepulveda's hometown of Portillo, Chile. They will tie
the knot at Our Lady of Peace Chapel at the Lodge, like his parents Lynne
and Johannes.

Sam is vice president of Trapp Family Lodge and Sepulveda, who managed her
own landscape design and construction firm in California, will help manage
the landscaping.

Moore said the couple is building a home at the Lodge. The Lodge underwent
some changes since the Moore's last visit, including the addition of a
fitness and wellness center. 'I look forward to the swimming pool,' Moore
said. tbradley1@nncogannett.com
