A resort in Stowe is offering additional activities this summer. The Trapp
Family Lodge transformed 13 miles of its cross-country ski trails into
mountain biking trails. Right now the trails and bike rentals are only open
to guests of the lodge. But as work continues over the next several years
the resort may team up with the Vermont Mountain Bike Association.
(Sam von Trapp): We're actually working on
developing a regional ride center in this area that would go from Waterbury
to Stowe. Seventy-five-plus miles of trails, interconnecting many different
trail systems. And it just happened the Trapp Family Lodge was in the
perfect location to help connect these different systems. The new trails
include riding for all ability levels.
The new trails have several different levels of
difficulty. The lodge says it's been considering putting in bike trails for
years but was only recently convinced that modern construction techniques
could reduce erosion and preserve the original cross-country trails.
