Vermont bike tours have proven to be Sojourn's most popular trips for 2010. Due to extremely high demand for the region's fall foliage tours, Sojourn has recently added an additional trip for 2010. The new premier tour runs from October 10-15 and features lodging in the Champlain Valley's finest inns before concluding at the famed Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. Fabulous routes and the region's most select lodging combine to create one extraordinary trip.

Upon arrival in the vibrant city of Burlington, the tour kicks off with a ride through the heart of the Champlain Valley past dairy farms and along rolling country roads ending at one of Vermont's classic country inns, the Waybury in East Middlebury. While some may recognize the Waybury as the home of the Bob Newhart show, others know the Inn for its elegant dining room, unparalleled New England cuisine, and its own historic Pub. Sojourn is proud to include this quintessential Vermont inn on this exclusive tour.

The next day is spent exploring further into the Green Mountains through the quaint villages of Bristol and Lincoln. Bristol retains its small town charm and features a variety of unique shops, including that of a family run beeswax candle maker. Browse leisurely through the shops in town or follow the New Haven River to the tiny hamlet of Lincoln, nestled along the river and framed by the peaks of the nearby mountains. Strong and enthusiastic cyclists also have the epic option to ride up the Appalachian Gap this day before heading back west to Middlebury. There guests will stay at the historic Swift House Inn, which provides easy access to this classic New England college town complete shops, galleries, restaurants, and a central town green.

The following day cyclists will further explore the region riding through covered bridges, past farms and orchards with stops at the Vermont Morgan Horse Farm and in the small town of Vergennes for a picnic on the green. Following lunch, the tour heads north to majestic Shelburne Farms. This 3800-acre lakeside agricultural estate was built by William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb in 1902. The Farms, as it is referred to locally, is a stunning example of preservation and period architecture. This exclusive stay at The Inn conveys the historic character, informal elegance, and hospitality enjoyed by visitors for more than a century. Here guests will enjoy a unique guided tour of the extensive and beautiful grounds and barns, and learn about their prize-winning cheddar cheese produced from the milk of their own herd of Jersey cows. Dinner will be in the Inn's famed dining room.

Cyclists will then leave the Lake behind the next morning, as the tour heads back into the mountains to enjoy more of the vibrant fall colors. The ride follows the Winooski River east to the town of Waterbury—home to Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and Ben and Jerry's. As usual mileage options are plentiful on this day with all roads leading to the Austrian-inspired 2,400 acre natural playground that is the world-renowned Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe. Originally a homestead for the von Trapp family depicted in the Sound of Music, the property has been transformed into a lovely four-season resort, complete with spa, hiking trails, and horse drawn wagon rides. Here guests can relax and enjoy the pool, sauna and beautiful views.

Due to the fact that there is so much to explore in Stowe and the surrounding area, the group will stay at the Lodge for two nights. Options abound during the next two days as guests may tackle the narrow winding road of Smuggler's Notch to take in more foliage views, explore the charming village of Stowe, and indulge in all of the amenities that Trapps has to offer. The exclusive tour concludes with a private dinner in the library of the Lodge, followed by entertaining jazz provided by the ageless local legend and pianist John Cassel.
