Remember the Great Up and Over, the event Stowe author-adventurer Jan Reynolds organized for this Saturday, March 24, to raise money to help the Maasai people of Africa?

Despite the weather, it's going to be held — although it will no longer be a Nordic skiing event. Instead, because of the warm weather's effects on the snow, people will hike or snowshoe.

People can register at the Trapp Family Lodge ski center, make their way to the historic Trapps Cabin for lunch, then head downhill to the Matterhorn at 4595 Muntain Road for après-ski fun.

The event will raise money to improve the lives of the Maasai people who are the subject of her book “Only the Mountains Do Not Move: A Maasai Story of Culture and Conservation.”

People who were part of the first Great Up and Over contributed to buying an iPad, smartphone, solar batteries and solar chargers, setting up communication links for the tribe, and connecting kids to kids.
