Climbed Every Mountain - The Story Behind The Sound of Music (BBC2, 12/19/12 8:15pm) Sue Perkins is stepping away from the tasty goods of The Great British Bake-Off (how she and Mel Giedroyc stay under 20 stones is a mystery to us all when you consider how many calories they're tempted by on a daily basis while filming the hit series) and climbed every mountain, followed every by-way, every path she knows to research the truth story behind one of cinema biggest hits - The Sound of Music. We all think we know the story - an Austrian novice nun becomes the governess to seven motherless children, turns them into a pitchperfect singing group, falls in love with their stern father, marries him, and then escapes the Nazis by crossing the Alps into Switzerland - but how much of it is true? Well, probably not that much. For a start, it's geographically incorrect. But there's also far more to the story of the Von Trapps, as Sue discovers when she travels from their home city of Salzburg to New York and Vermont, where she meets surviving members and descendents of the clan.
