The second annual Great Up and Over, a mountain biking event through the Trapp Family Lodge trails in Stowe, has been set for Saturday, Aug. 3. New this year is a challenging 10K running race.

Registration begins at the Trapps Outdoor Center at 10 a.m. Bikers and hikers start at their own leisure. The 10K running race starts promptly at 11:30 a.m. and ends at the Slayton Pasture Cabin. Pre-registration for the race is available at runreg.com; click on “The Great Up and Over”; “trapps” is the password to register.

Participants can bike or hike from Trapps Outdoor Center up to Slayton Pasture Cabin for lunch from noon to 2 p.m., and then head downhill to the Matterhorn Restaurant, local watering hole and restaurant, to have some fun with family, friends and other like-minded adventurers. People can take a shuttle back to Trapps and their cars.

Mountain bikes can be rented at the Outdoor Center; call ahead to reserve, 253-5755. The center is at 700 Trapp Hill Road in Stowe.

Cost: $35 per person or $65 for a family up to four, or $85 for a family of more than four (cash or check). Registration includes half-price bike rental, day pass at Trapps Outdoor Center, lunch, the Matterhorn party and the shuttle back to your car.

Additional donations are welcome. Proceeds from the event support Good Fun-d, which supports environmental and cultural sustainability through action and education. This year’s event is focused on supporting Himalayan cultures and environments.
