Bluebird skies, warm weather and soft snow made for a fabulous weekend at Trapp Family Lodge, the host site and a sponsor of the CTA's Ladies Nordic Ski Expo.  This past Saturday, over 115 women, including participants and instructors, gathered at the Trapps Nordic Center for an energetic and fun day of skate, classic and backcountry instruction.  After a full morning of lessons and video analysis, women were treated to a gourmet lunch in the famous Trapp Family Lodge, and were even lucky enough to hear Ongyel Sherpa, owner of US Sherpa International, speak about his Nepalese family and his treks through the Himalayas.  After an afternoon of tours, continued telemark practice, and adventures along the Trapps trails, women were delighted to arrive back at the lodge, greeted by Nutty Steph's Chocolate, Boyden Valley Winery Wine, Vermont Smoke and Cure cheese and meats, and Red Hen Bakery breads, along with a warm fire and new found skiing friends.

They day was a large success thanks to the fabulous energy of each participant and the incredible efforts and knowledge of the 10 instructors.  We also owe a large thank you to each of our sponsors from the day, who donated refreshments, food, raffle items, time, the beautiful location and more.  The sponsors for the 2013 CTA Ladies Nordic Ski Expo were: Trapp Family Lodge, Vermont Smoke and Cure, US Sherpa International, Boyden Valley Winery, Nutty Steph’s, Red Hen Baking Co., Vermont Peanut Butter, Absolute Wellness Spa, Women’s Source for Sports, Shelburne Vineyards, Vermont Artisan Coffee and Tea Co., Old Cavendish Products, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Vermont State Parks, Bryce Berggren & Vermont Climbing and Adventure School.

Already excited about next year's event?  Well mark your calendars, as the Ladies Nordic Ski Expo is always the second Saturday in January, and it is an event not to miss.  In the words of one participant from this year, "It was a wonderful event! It's my second year, and I got a group of friends to come with me this time around. We've decided to make it an annual event!"

Didn't get to register for this event?  The CTA still has two more events this winter for backcountry skiing enthusiasts! Check out the Get Out and Backcountry Ski Festival on January 27th at Bolton Valley or the Trapps to Bolton Backcountry Race and Tour on March 10th! Registration is filling up, so don't wait, sign up today (online or by phone) for either event.  Want to improve your telemark technique, then join us at the 3rd Annual Nordic and Telemark Clinic at Pico Mountain on February 3rd from 12pm-4pm! Click for more details and to sign up.
