“The hills are alive with the sound of Frisbees.” I swear to you, I did not write that sentence. It was the first line of a press release I received today from the Trapp Family Lodge in Vermont, which is a vacation resort owned by the von Trapp family of “The Sound of Music” fame. The press release announced that the resort has just opened a 9-hole Frisbee golf course.
I apologize in advance if this blog entry jinxes the weather for the next few days. It seems that every time I mention a stargazing opportunity, clouds move in. I have to take that chance, though, because there is a nice grouping of planets in the western sky just after sunset. For the next few days, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury will be close together near the horizon, forming a triangle that earthsky.org says you will almost be able to cover with your thumb held at arm’s length. The trio will appear to be closest together on May 26.
Stephen Hawking as superhero? This week, Bluewater Productions released a biography in comic-book form of the famed physicist. The artist, faced with a character who cannot move, let alone leap tall buildings, said he kept the action going by illustrating what goes on in Hawking’s mind. A peek at the company’s website shows it has also given the comic-book treatment to Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and Honey Boo Boo, among others.
