It’s not often you can find a gourmet dinner entrée for $13.95 in Stowe.

That’s what the DeliBakery at Trapp Family Lodge is offering Wednesday through Sunday, from 5 to 7 p.m. The budget-friendly dinners, called Stammtisch, debuted this week.

Stammtisch refers to a communal table where diners socialize, said Executive Chef Kim Lambrechts.

“They’re very popular in Austria and Germany,” Lambrechts said. “It’s very casual and fun.”

The idea is to attract guests staying at the resort along with people from the Stowe area who are looking for a good meal at a reasonable price, Lambrechts said.

The eclectic menu offers one entrée each evening with a focus on comfort food, often with an Austrian or Hungarian flavor.

One of the attractions of the Deli Bakery is that it is right off the Trapps Nordic trails. Adding to the European touch, you can ski to dinner, and home — if you’re game for a little skiing in the dark.

The winter menu includes chicken schnitzel, goulash, and shepherd’s pie among other options, each with a meat, starch and vegetable.

Diners can also order wine, Trapp Lager, which is brewed downstairs, or Austrian-style pastries baked on site for an extra charge.

“The idea behind it is to have something that’s value-driven and to include items people like to eat, nothing too fancy, but fun,” Lambrechts said.

Reservations aren’t required and Lambrechts plans to change up the menu each season to reflect locally available food.
