The von Trapp Family, whose life story was immortalized by the hit movie The Sound of Music, kicks off its 4th annual Oktoberfest festivities with a barbecue on Saturday, September 21, at 4PM, at the Trapp Family Lodge DeliBakery. The Austrianstyle celebration continues through Thursday, September 26. This year's event coincides with the ground breaking for a new and expanded Trapp Lager brewery, on the grounds of the resort.

The origin of Oktoberfest is the 1810 Munich wedding of a European Princess and a Bavarian Crown Prince, who invited the entire city to his wedding dinner. Now 8 million people flock to the sixteen day Munich Oktoberfest, and millions more attend its spin-offs in all corners of the world. It was a traditional holiday for the von Trapp family before they immigrated from Austria to America in 1939.

Featured attraction of the Trapp Family Oktoberfest is Trapp Lager, which is made with the resort's own pure well water and distributed to dozens of Vermont cities and towns. Standard varieties are Amber, Golden and Dark. The microbrewery also produces seasonal batches of beer with nuanced flavors, to suit the changing New England climate.
The Trapp Family Lodge celebration in Stowe will be accompanied by such authentic Bavarian dishes as bratwurst, knackwurst, linzertorte, sachertorte, and apfelstrudel, as well as chicken and steak, and authentic Bavarian music. Entry to the festivities is free of charge. Tickets for the barbecue are $29 per person.
