"The Sound of Music" Cast Reunion at Trapp Family Lodge
During the month of June we were honored to host five of the seven actors who played the von Trapp children in the Oscar-winning movie "The Sound of Music". The movie cast reunited here to dedicate an apple tree in memory of Werner von Trapp, who died on October 11th, 2007. Duane Chase, the actor who played Werner in the movie (in which he was called Kurt), lead the ceremony. During the graveside event, Elisabeth von Trapp, Werner's daughter and a professional performer, sang Edelwiess, and read a letter of thanks from her homebound mother Erika. The group presented a plaque of appreciation to Maria von Trapp, the second oldest surviving member of the real children (age 97) After the ceremony there was a well attended and very enjoyable autograph and photo session for guest of the Lodge.
The group also presented a plaque to Werner's sister Maria, one of two remaining children of Captain Georg von Trapp and his first wife, Agathe, upon whom the story was based. The plaque expresses thanks from the movie children to the real von Trapp children, for making their movie roles possible, and for the lasting friendships that grew out of that experience. They’re really an amazing group of people.
