Known for his contemporary work in stone and metal, Christopher Curtis has been creating sculpture for more than fifty years. His affection for stone started as a young boy collecting rocks in the woods of Vermont. Over the decades, his fascination expanded from pebbles to cobbles to large boulders. Curtis claims to have looked at literally millions of stones, collected multiple thousands, and discarded nearly as many, which has honed his discerning focus on shape as well as material. He has a special exhibition currently on the grounds that may be viewed by our Outdoor Center.

Kate's WebsiteCraig Mooney makes paintings of dramatic moments and heightened emotionality that are known for being expansive and expressive. Though a representational painter, the artist incorporates a myriad of abstract qualities throughout his paintings. In his figurative work, Mooney romanticizes his subjects and presents them in an atmospheric lens that is best described as dreamlike. His paintings appear to be capturing a moment suspended in time. While his work feels familiar, it is not specific. Rather it is, on a very basic level, symbolism of what could have been, has been or will be. His landscape artwork may be viewed in our Mozart Room and is available for purchase.
Craig's websiteSheel’s realistic, naturalistic, and yes a bit impressionistic artistic expression began at the tender age of seven. Guided in a variety of different techniques under the eye of several Vermont artists, he graduated from the University of Vermont and found inspiration from his close friend and mentor, former Yale art professor Caroll N. Jones Jr., a master of multi-layered painting technique rarely practiced since the Renaissance. His famous painting "Stowe with Last Light on Mount Mansfield" may be viewed and is available for purchase in our Main Lodge gift shop with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Stowe Community Church renovation project.

Rett's BioBorn in 1900 in Bosnia, then part of the Austrian Empire, Rudi Mattesich graduated from the Austria-Hungarian Imperial Military Academy and served as a lieutenant in the Hungarian White Army. Following World War I, he fled to the United States during Adolf Hitler's ascent to power. A skilled painter, Mattesich caught the attention of Johannes von Trapp at a ski author event in Bolton, Vermont. Impressed by his work, von Trapp purchased 40 of Mattesich’s paintings for the newly constructed lodge, following the devastating fire in 1980 which can be seen in the lobby and the guest hallways. Mattesich’s artistic focus often revolved around Vermont’s rural architecture, particularly structures with distinctive rooflines.
Rudi Mattesich also made significant contributions to ski touring in the United States and spent many winters in Stowe.
