Vermont Recreation & Wildlife
Vermont offers something for everyone in every season. During the warmer months, enjoy hiking on more than 1,000 miles of trails, including the nation’s first through-hiking trail–the 273-mile Long Trail. There are also 18 mountain biking clubs and a statewide network of trails, many of which you’ll find right here at Trapp Family Lodge.
The state offers more than 50 state parks, which are home to a number of wildlife species, including moose, black bears, and turkeys. Lake Champlain, one of the largest lakes in the state, is even said to be home to a fabled lake monster named “Champ.” See if you can spot it during your next visit!
For winter fun, you’ll find 19 downhill ski areas and 6,000 miles of snowmobile trails across Vermont. Our Lodge in Stowe offers a number of cross-country and snowshoeing trails while downhill skiing and snowboarding can be enjoyed at the nearby Stowe Mountain Resort. Vermont is home to the nation’s first ski tow and is the location of the Burton Snowboard headquarters. Additionally, Trapp Family Lodge is home to the first cross-country ski center in the country, and it’s the largest in Stowe.
Golf lovers will not be disappointed with the selection of courses in Vermont. You’ll find more than 65 stunning and well-manicured golf courses throughout the state.
Art, Culture, & History
Vermont is rich in history and culture. The state is the birthplace of two U.S. presidents, one of the top producers of U.S. Olympic skiers and riders in the nation, the first to abolish slavery in its constitution, and the first state to legally recognize gay couples’ civil unions and to pass marriage equality through the legislature.
Vermont’s bustling towns feature a modern flair and are filled with museums, performing art houses, and much more. Stop by a local art gallery and watch an artist create a masterpiece. Hit up a theater for a big screen or independent film. Or visit a museum and learn about the history of our lovely state. Every city has a long list of fun annual events that are perfect for the whole family, ensuring a great experience no matter what season you visit.
